It’s been a busy week for Classy Cat Books—I’ve put up quite a few posts, including 3 (count them, 3) book reviews. I don’t think I’ve read so much in such a short period while still working more than full time in a while. It feels good 🙂

In the real world:

I’ve taken up a renewed obsession with Once Upon a Time. I didn’t watch all of last season, but now that’s it’s up on Netflix I’ve been tearing through it. It’s been spectacular, and far more intriguing than I remember the seasons before being. Maybe it’s something about the allure of Neverland and the way that they twisted around Pan’s fairytale. I love it!

I’ve also been cooking a ton, which has lent itself to more time spent listening to audiobooks. I go through phases of really liking audiobooks and avoiding them like the plague. Right now, it seems, I’m on an audiobook kick. I’ve never differentiated between formats in my book reviews—as a reader of this blog, do you think I should?

I’ve mentioned a few times that I’m working on transitioning to a new domain for Classy Cat Books. I’ve made a lot of progress on getting it up and ready, though there’s still a lot of work to do. Most of the really boring parts are done (reformatting, etc), but now I’m on to mostly graphic development. It’s something I used to be pretty comfortable with, but I’m rusty after years away from website development. If all goes well and I have the time I’m expecting, you should be starting to see posts directing you there by the end of the month. Keep your eyes peeled 🙂

Also, my grad school classes are back underway, so there may be some light weeks coming up if time gets tight. I’m taking two classes this fall (Statistical Consulting and Applied Multivariate Analysis—woo hoo!) so my weekends may be a bit full with homework.

I’ve also signed up for the 30 days, 30+ pre-schedules challenge over at Hearding Cats & Burning Soup. Basically, it’s a challenge to add at least 30 pre-scheduled posts throughout the month of November. It’s a blogging version of NaNoWriMo, which I’ve already decided I’m not going to participate in this go round. I’ll be sharing status on my progress throughout the month of November. You should head on over and consider signing up as well if you haven’t already!

I’ve also started reading Escapement (Neumarian Chronicles #1) by Ciara Night. My review won’t be posted right away—I’m reading it for a blog tour via Xpresso Book Tours, and I’m not scheduled to post until September 22.

The Witch With No Name (The Hollows #13) by Kim Harrison comes out on Tuesday—I’m super excited! Time allowing, it will likely be the “Other” in the bullets above.

And I swear I’m going to get back around to reading Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy #2) by Deborah Harkness. It’s surprisingly high up on my TBR list for being put off for so long. I just know it’s going to take a while to read, so I’m trying to get the “more urgent” reads (ones with deadlines or, you know, Kim Harrison) out of the way first. But it will  happen.

Other books high up on the list after the chaos that was this last week are Jackaby by William Ritter and Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas, so expect to see reviews of them up soon as well.

I’m going to be introducing two weekly themed posts (oh, all right, memes) this week. One is joining the Top Ten Tuesday bandwagon. I admit, I find them entertaining, and they’re a decent mental exercise—in drafting this week’s post, I re-familiarized myself with my bookshelves, and rediscovered some old favorites. But I’m also starting a “Monday Morning Musings” weekly post, where, like last week’s Book Pricing post, I will discuss something related to the book publishing market, or some other book-related intellectual topic. Check back tomorrow to see what I’ve got in store 🙂

    I love TTT even though I rarely participate nowadays. But making a bookish list is always fun!
    I’ve signed up for Blog Ahead too. It’s a huge challenge (for me) but I’m excited about it! Come on Nov!

      I am terribly curious to see how well I do in Nov … I’ve always failed miserably at NaNoWriMo when I attempt because I’ll hit a few days in a row where I just don’t have time because of work/school, and then I’m done for. November at work should be one of the slower months though? Here’s hoping!

      It took me over a year after reading the first VA to get around to the second (after all, I read the first one early enough it didn’t even get a review on here…). I finally decided it was time to get through it when my mom told me she had finished the series (my mother, who until very recently, didn’t touch fantasy or YA with a ten foot pole). The first Maas book is soooo good—you should definitely give it a try!

    I think you should mention whether you’re listening to a book or reading it. First because the narrator can make all the difference, second because those who specifically look for those reviews will appreciate it. Thumbs up for your challenge and the blog transition. Have a great week 😉

      I think I will start making a note on the format. I’m very careful to only select books for audio with readers that I like (thank god for samples on audible), but you’re right; sometimes there are some really annoying ones that make it through the cracks. It hadn’t even occurred to me (foolish me) that some people specifically look for audiobook reviews—thanks for the feedback. Have a great week yourself, and thanks for the encouragement! 🙂

      Yeah, her third book came out and the blogosphere went absolutely crazy—I’ll be honest and say that’s the only reason I finally read her first book. It’s well-deserved, if the writing stays this good for the rest of the books. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good week yourself 😉

    I first found your blog by following Kimba’s link to your Book Pricing post from her Sunday Post. I like your blog since I also have cats who “help” me read sometimes!

    Your statistics classes sound very difficult to me…LOL. My son majored in math for his undergraduate and took a few statistics classes and considered graduate work, but he’s working in the computer security field these days and loves that. Anyway, good luck with your classes and hope you can find time to blog, too.

    I liked the first Sarah J. Maas book and have had the second book for awhile now. I have too many books! Have a great week!

      Thanks! One of my cats certainly spends a good deal of time on my bookshelves being a lovable pest. For a while I was like, “sure, pick out my next book,” but I soon discovered that he had a favorite and it was one I’d already read 😉

      My undergrad was in business and math, where I focused on Econ, Econometrics, and stats. I decided to do grad school for stats when my job paid for it, otherwise I might not have. I’m almost done with this degree—2 semesters left, if all goes according to plan. Computer security sounds like a fascinating field; I’ve met a few people who work in it that play in my orchestra, so I’ve been learning a bit. Don’t think it would be right for me though :/

      And I know the feeling! My TBR list grows far too fast…At some point I think I need to challenge myself to read at least one book that I already have on my physical bookshelves per month or something, just to make sure I finally get around to them…

    I’m looking forward to watching Once Upon a Time though my To Watch list is almost as long as my To Read list! I’m fairly new to audiobooks though I’ve definitely been enjoying them lately. I can’t cook and listen but they’re great for listening to while cleaning or doing laundry or other boring tasks. I’m not sure about differentiating between audio books and regular books. I don’t think it’s super important but I know as a new listener I do like to see what books people really enjoy listening too. Have a great week!

      Thanks for the feedback 🙂 It took me a while to get used to listening to books, but now I do all the time (it drives my boyfriend nuts; needless to say, he doesn’t read the same stuff, particularly when I’m on a YA kick). Thanks for stopping by!

    I’m so excited. I saw Once Upon a Time had new episodes the other night. I haven’t started watching them yet. Glad to hear they are better than the last couple of season. Not gonna lie, the show was a bit cheesy… but it’s my guilty pleasure.

      I’ve actually read Shadow of Night before, which is part of why it keeps getting delayed. I want to re-read it before I read The Book of Life, but there are books that I want to read a first time more than I want to re-read that one. Nevermind the fact that I really want to read that third book 😉

    I’m with you on audio books! Either I listen to them everyday or never at all. >_< Arugh! Why is there no middle ground?!! Still, awesome that you got so many reviews done! I've been a bit slack about actually posting my reviews, but they're all ready to go. 😉 My sister is watching OUAT, I haven't yet. I'm still suck on Psych and dyyyying because Supernatural will be coming back soon! XD

      I watched the first couple seasons of Psych (back when I was living with my parents) but didn’t stick with it once I didn’t have their Tivo anymore >.> Supernatural did kind of the same thing, though I did get caught up a couple years ago, then trailed back off. It kind of lost my interest when time got tight :/ Glad it’s still going strong, and that you’re enjoying it! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
