The Shrubberies Have Ears

I haven’t yet read Game of Thrones, though it is fairly high on my list of books to read in the upcoming weeks and months. I do, however, watch the TV series. The plot is relatively intriguing, but I expect that out of a book made into a TV series. What I like the most about the show is the depth of character and some of the witticisms  not to mention the strength of several of the female leads in spite of living in a largely paternal world.

One character I can’t quite wrap my head around yet is Lady Margaery. Quite frankly, I don’t like her. But I am impressed by the role she plays. She flawlessly manages to wrap Joffrey around her finger. She is a master manipulator, as is shown by her ability to also sway Sansa.

But her grandmother, Lady Olenna Redwyne, ranks among my favorite characters to-date. Especially after tonight’s episode. In fact, she is responsible for 2 of the 3 quotes I can’t decide between as being the favorite for the evening, listed below. She is an incredibly opinionated woman, but she is clever enough not to be terribly overt in inappropriate situations.

Last remark goes to Denaerys Stormborn. I just want to say that she has been one of my favorite characters since the very beginning, and I love watching her grow in influence and inner strength. Totally called the outcome in the episode today, and I don’t feel that it lost its impact at all for having been predictable. She holds the last of the favorite quotes.
